Scugnizza and Guardamago II: Mediaterranean Champion and Vice Champion

And once again, two IY 11.98 boats have secured the titles, this time as the Champion and Vice Champion of the Mediterranean ORC. All of this happened during a series of races with rather bizarre weather conditions. In the waters of Sorrento, it went from dead calm to 38 knots, putting the skills of the crews, the equipment, and the nerves of the teams to the test. But in the end, after five races, Enzo De Blasio aboard Scugnizza (4 points) only needed to discard the single second-place finish to win with an impressive 4 first-place finishes, while Guardamago II with Massimo Romeo Piparo at the helm (7 points) comfortably took the second spot on the podium with a five-point lead over the third-place boat. It's a shame about the NSC in race 3 that affected IY 11.98 Geex, skippered by Angelo Lubino, costing them a place on the podium. "The last day with three tight and breathless races allowed us to consolidate our position," says Massimo Romeo Piparo from his well-deserved second-place finish. "Consistency and preparation eventually lead to results if the boat you're sailing is outstanding. The synergy on board with two strategists like De Tullio and Arborea was excellent. And now we're ready for the Italian Championship in Carrara." Enzo De Blasio, the newly crowned Mediterranean Champion, is also thrilled and remarks, "We completely dominated."
